Pinteresting crafts!

While I was home for Christmas, I dabbled in two DIY projects I had my eye on vis Pinterest.

First, the famous "nut" bracelet seen here.
I ended up making two bracelets and a necklace. I am SO in love with these. They are kind of edgy, but they look expensive and shiny (and we all know shiny is important). I'm not going to go through the steps since the original tutorial's linked. This did take some getting used to; It took me a bit to find a twine solid enough to hold the nuts in place. This is all starting to sound a little weird..

Some finished/modeling pics:

Next up: baseball bracelets found here. All you need is an Exacto knife and a baseball! I made these from a baseball that I got from my first tour that has sentimental value. I'm really not going to do anything with the actual ball (it's been sitting in a drawer for almost 2 years), so this project was appropriate. It was a little harder to dig the exacto knife into the baseball than I thought, but not so bad. Now my best friend Tiffany (who was touring with me) and I will have matching sentimental friendship bracelets. Cute, I know:

Side note: It has been mentioned that I chopped up a signed ball for my bracelet. The ball has more value to me as something useful. A thought was to make the other leather part into a cuff, but it seems my excess material from this ball was thrown away while I was away.

Have you made anything on Pinterest lately? I know I'm not alone in my obsession!

  1. Thank you for the sweet comment on my blog! I love how your necklace turned out! I may have to try that one out. I think I may like it better as a necklace! Great job! :)

  4. Hi,
I've been trying for three days to make these (literally hours and hours!) and I can't seem to get them tight enough for the hexes to hold their "v" shape. I've tried all sizes of hex - small, med, large - but nothing seems to work. Do you think using regular twine is the problem? It looks like yours may be hemp? Thanks so much!

  6. Thanks for the comments!

I had to do some trial and error to get mine right, too! I bought twine at Michael's and it didn't hold; Everything was flopping all over the place. I ended up finding a twine (labelled twine, but thicker) in my moms sewing box that I used! Hemp would probably work. Try braiding with a heavier material (or try doubling the twine you have) and start with smaller hex nuts since they aren't as heavy. Hope that helps!

I'm going to try to start posting more crafts; They're something I always do when I'm home.
